Bitesize Blogger: Adding a signature to your posts…

23rd August 2013

A quick way to personalise blog posts is to add a signature at the bottom. To start, you’ll need a jpeg of your signature saved to an image hosting service. (You can create one in Publisher, Paint, Photoshop etc or on free image editing sites like PicMonkey. I can do a seperate step by step for that if there’s an appetite for it) The image needs to be sized according to what you want the final size to be. (There are ways around this using html but it just makes it ALOT simpler with the coding if the image is sized beforehand) Here’s mine, saved in Picasa…

You’ll need the url for your image. Note the settings. Original size (mine is 100px) and set to “image only (no link)”….

Via your blogger dashboard click on “settings” then “posts and comments”…

Then next to “post template” click “add” as per the screenshot below…

This will open up a box. Any coding that you put in here will be applied automatically to any future posts. (It won’t change any previous posts)….

You’ll need to copy the code in the box below. Click in the box and then press CTRL + A followed by CTRL + C…
Once you’ve pasted this code into the box for your post template, you’ll need to replace the highlighted blue text with the URL for your blog, and the URL for your signature jpg. DO NOT delete or replace the speech marks. They need to stay!

<a href=”link to your blog“><img src=”link to your image” /></a>

To paste the code click in the box and press CTRL + V. Then replace the text I’ve indicated, with your URL’s. You can see mine in the screenshot below. Once you’re done, click “save settings” in the top right hand corner of the page….

The next time you come to write a blog post, your signature will be there waiting 🙂

Any Q’s, drop me a line!

Thanks so much for this Portia! It was really helpful and after a bit of fiddling about, I’ve managed to get this added to my blog for the next post.

Hi Portia! This was a really helpful step by step, but can I just ask, when your name comes up on the blog post does it have a box around it once you have published it? I can’t seem to get rid of the box, can you help at all!? Thanksss Hannah x

Is there a way to have the signature appear a few lines below where you start typing? When I went to write a new blog post, I start typing beside the signature. How do you edit html to make the signature start three or so lines below where you start typing

    electronic signature in word

If you click your cursor to the left of your image when you start a new post, then press enter a couple of times it will move it down the page a couple of lines. Hope this helps 🙂 Px
